Acer Aspire E1-571 Not Turning On: Diagnosing and Fixing Power Failures

One of the most common complaints from Acer Aspire E1-571 owners is that the laptop simply won’t power on. The power LED may not light up at all, or it flashes briefly and shuts off. This post covers the main causes and how technicians diagnose and fix each one.

Step 1: Rule Out the Simple Stuff First

Before opening the laptop, check the basics:

  • Try a known-good AC adapter. The E1-571 uses a 19V/3.42A adapter (65W).
  • Remove the battery and run on AC power only.
  • Hold the power button for 30 seconds with no power to discharge residual capacitors, then retry.
  • Check if the power LED lights up at all when the adapter is plugged in.

Step 2: Check the DC Power Jack

The DC jack on the E1-571 is a known wear point. Physical damage or a cold solder joint on the jack can prevent charging and powering on entirely. Use a multimeter to measure voltage at the jack tip — it should read close to 19V. If voltage is present at the jack but not downstream on the board, the jack or its solder joints need attention.

Step 3: Diagnose the Motherboard Power Circuit

On the LA-7912P board, the power delivery section centers around MOSFETs Q1 and Q2 near the DC jack area, and the power management IC (often a RT8206 or compatible). Common failures include:

  • Shorted MOSFET: Results in blown fuse or no voltage reaching the board.
  • Failed power IC: The board receives input voltage but doesn’t generate the supply rails for the CPU/chipset.
  • Short circuit: A shorted capacitor anywhere on the board can kill the 19V rail. Use a bench power supply with current limiting to identify shorts.

Step 4: Check the BIOS and EC Firmware

Sometimes the Embedded Controller (EC) firmware is corrupt, causing the laptop to appear dead even though the power circuitry is intact. This can follow a BIOS flash failure. In this case, re-flashing the BIOS using a CH341A programmer is the solution — and you’ll need the correct ROM file.

When the Board Needs to Be Replaced

If the motherboard has suffered liquid damage, a burned power IC, or a failed chipset, replacement is the most practical solution. The LA-7912P is compatible with the E1-571, V3-571, V3-531, and E1-531 models. You can buy a tested replacement board via this affiliate link:

Final Tips

Always check the RAM and reseat it before assuming the board is dead. A failed RAM module can sometimes prevent POST entirely on this platform. Also, try booting with a single stick in the primary slot (closest to CPU).
